SE Pre-Christmas Burger Fly-in 2021 (12-11-21)

I am now a May be, unless I can hitch a ride or the plane gets fixed. During preflight found out all my nav lights are inop, it’s something to do with the dimmer thing on the panel. It’s the same thing that my fuel indicator thing is connected for some odd reason, so I am legally grounded.

Thank Zeus I did my annual
Preflight check today ( dear FAA, that’s a joke)

On a complete different note, do choppers care about which way wind is blowing? Sitting on my tail gate next to the ramp and every copper is departing with what would be a tail wind, albeit 7 kts

Oops. Just saw this for the first time now. Guess I missed it.

Rescheduled to the 18th for weather.

600’ ceiling here yesterday morning.

Yeah they care. Headwinds benefit helicopters just like they benefit airplanes. A strong enough x-wind / tailwind could make the helicopter uncontrollable (loss of tail rotor effectiveness). 7 kts though? That’s pretty negligible. Generally anything under 15 kts I take the quickest departure / arrival route without regard to wind. Over 15 I’ll align into the wind. You can save probably 10-15 percent torque and increase your climb angle as well.

Just how bad is this weather y’all are talking about?

Although greatly weakened, the line of weather that caused all the tornadoes in Arkansas and Kentucky rolled through the area around the time folks would have been flying home. Certainly wasn’t a good day for a $100 hamburger.

I've got two cylinders out for repair. No clue as to when they'll come back.

Weather forecast here to be crappy on the 18th for my little VFR self. Would love to go to GMU....did my training there 23 years ago (Carolyn's Flight Academy). They didnt have the cafe back then.

If MOS is to be believed …. Gonna be MVFR at best, at least where I am

Not looking very good for tomorrow, at least not for VFR flying.

Yeah… I’m gonna bag this one again fellas :(

add me to the list of chicken flyers ... I am staying on the ground tomorrow

I'm currently not current, so no IFR flying for me. I am hatching a plan that will greatly improve my airtime in the near future.

I'm current but I need the IFR certs for the plane. weak excuse, I know.

I can't make it either. The plane is still in BHM. It is fixed now, but a 700' ceiling is not good weather to depart in after electrical work has be done on a plane with all the instruments being electrical. Then I would be getting home after sunset as well. Not a good plan.

Current plan is to drive over on Sunday and pick it up. Saturday is all rain, so even a worse day for a post-mx flight. Dropping the rental car off here and flying over isn't good as Hertz wants $500+ to drop it off in Atlanta. Plus we have a wedding to go to Saturday evening, so getting stuck somewhere on Saturday with the plane would not go over well with my wife.

Let’s try to put something together after the New Year. Sorry to pick such lousy days for a fly-in! :(
