Del Rio TFR

It's ridiculous and will backfire.

Meh, it's only 1000 foot high, plenty low enough for the Fox news helicopter to get all the footage Fox needs...sounds more like lazy journalism strikes again.

Yeah, and what is the cost of flying that Helicopter versus a drone?

Um, so? The implication is that it was done for some sort of news blackout...you are saying that if the story costs more, its a news blackout? Ah, no.

You guys stop complaining! This was done to PROTECT you. Just think how many POA pilots are now adjusting their flight routines to avoid the Del Rio TFR.:p

Seriously, those images don't even scratch the surface of what's going on here on the border ... but you all will see the results soon.

At least they can still report on violence in Chicago, nowhere else though.

At less than 1/6th the volume of tomorrow's nearby (domed) stadium TFR, it has negligible effect on my flight planning this weekend. I'm good.

Must be some special event at the First Church of the Gooey Death and Discount House of Worship.

I think the TFR is active but news organizations can request permission to enter.

Cheers

(I must resist the snarky comments about getting permission...)

:)

There's also 3 large TFRs SE of El Paso. Same issue?

Those are 10,000 thru 13,000.

Those are permanent drone TFRs. Awhile back, the drones had to have an escort plane ... not sure when, but that changed. If you look further east, the "circle to climb area" is in the San Angelo TX TFR where they are based and climb to altitude, then head to the border and operate roughly 24 hours total including the return landing to San Angelo. These aren't for illegal aliens, these are for drug runners ... my sector set some sort of record the first week of September with hundreds of pounds of fentanyl and meth seizures ...

There are some on the southern AZ and NM border. Not sure why, but no TFR for them .... **BUT*** ... you can tell when they're running because there'll be Notams indicating "lights ON" required for all night flights in the area. I used to fly a lot at night, but haven't paid attention if they're still doing that ...
