OSH PICS

Balley Bomber was pretty neat.

Stoked to see Mike Patey got Scrappy’s hours flown off and he made it to OshKosh! If you’ve not watched his YouTube of the build, it’s amazing.

Surprise thunderstorms last night kept us up all night. Three separate lines came through and all required me to stand in the middle of the tent and support the poles so they wouldn’t break from the winds, lol. We were soaked and spent half the day drying everything out. The talk is a possible derecho coming through Wednesday (tomorrow) night, so we’re just going to cry uncle and leave a couple of days early. We’re so excited to be here, but the heat has been tough and we’re not prepared for any weathering any more storms.

Grabbed screenshots of the 3 different lines of storms that came through last night. Had nothing better to do as sleep was NOT happening, lol.

Slept right through most of it, except for the gusts that had the camper rocking. Sun really knocked me out on Monday.

ok, the ACCA's...........honestly IDGARA (look it up, @luvflyin ), but any interesting stories about how you guys gave yourselves awards and stuff? looks like @Skyrys62 got the "best supporting guy in someone else's youtube video filmed in a 310 during the 2nd quarter while flying to get bbq" award. but anything else noteworthy you guys wish to share?

Lol..it wasn't that kind of recognize.
Basically some random dude said "hey, I saw you in the 310 video".
That was it..

But, I'm not one to miss an opportunity so since I'm now officially affiliated, I'm setting up a satellite 310 Pilot merch store to fund my next Osh trip. (don't tell Kevin)

What is so special about this guy? Why is every one so starstruck? I know he wrecked Draco.

It’s less starstruck than awestruck. The dude comes up with some pretty innovative ideas then engineers, tests, refines, and builds amazing stuff. Holds some world speed records, too.

Has a couple of businesses, a handful of ratings and built a couple of pretty near clean-sheet experimental aircraft. Had/has ADD/ADHD to overcome with the FAA as well. Highly successful dude in multiple disciplines. So is his brother.

Seems to be pretty personable and fairly humble for the stuff he’s accomplished.

Here it comes. This storm moving SE, the red blotch heading toward us.

Broadcastify Scanner sounds like Ripon and Fon Du Lac got hit pretty hard. I hope there was no airport damage

There are two aircraft in this shot, rarely photographed together. And if I had thought that a few seconds earlier, you might even be able to identify them both.

Is that the u2? I really wish we had been here to see that.
You are correct, sir. It was the first time I had seen one in the air. It was neat to see these two famous reconnaissance aircraft with very different missions.

So how is the turn out this year? Someone told me it was kind of light, but I can't really tell from the photos. It does look kind of light.

Unofficial number I overheard was 10% over 2019

Word on the streets iš 25% over an average year. But lots of folks got out on Wednesday before the storm/tornado warnings.

Wednesday was a mass exodus. I struggled with the decision to stay but decided that I was safely tied down and not safer anywhere between KOSH and home. If I had a P-51, though, I might have run WEP to get out of the way.

Attendance prior to Wednesday afternoon seemed high. Airplane parking and camping was full everywhere I saw. I got in on Monday afternoon and my spot in HBC was almost on the perimeter road.

Lee Lauderbach (N351DT) just flew overhead North GA heading back to Kissimmee. 10,000 ft up and I still heard the distinctive sound of the Mustang.

Edit: Looks like he’s stopping into GVL for gas.

I felt like the number of planes and campers was way up but the number of general public maybe slightly down. Probably find out next week.
