In my PA28-181, over the years I had noted occasional water in the baggage compartment carpet. While the window seals were inspected, it often was ascribed to a leaky seal around the baggage door. This past weekend, I thought there may be a little bit of moisture on the carpet, but not very much. I also looked at my latch and noticed a small gap to the bottom of the latch that was never appreciated. Is this normal or is something missing that could now allow moisture to enter after a rain?

I replaced the seal around my luggage door a few years ago and have had no leaks. It is not a difficult job. See if you have any antenna gaskets overhead that may be leaking. If you have the blower ventilation system, there is a a hose attached to the vent hose in the tail section that is supposed to drain any water from the vent hose to the outside. Make sure that that hose is intact and not stopped up.
