It has happened quite a few times in American circles as well, maintainers are usually the casualties.

"Hey Achmed ... what do this button do?"

A lot of airforces park their ready aircraft in covered revetments, sort-of like a carport. Especially in extreme climates. My guess is this is the "hangar" they're talking about if they were getting manned up to go fly.

Yep. I believe there was a tale, long before my time, of an inadvertent ejection in my old hangar on the flight line involving a tomcat. That's gotta be one of the worst ways to go, right up there with actually intentionally ejecting and realizing you forgot to fasten the parachute fittings.

That seat should be pinned after parking, rendering the handles inop. Only a qualified maintainer, or the next pilot should arm the seat. I guess common knowledge though.

This gives a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘Ejection Handle Pulled’.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

Sad to see this :(
