Bendix spring (impulse coupler)

Where's Tom?

I was taking the impulse coupler off of one of my S4 mags on the Champ and well - I don't want to get into the details but, long story short, I need to get the spring back in the housing and I don't have no fancy Bendix spring winding tool. I've done this before when I was a kid but now I'm old and it scares me. I've already lost enough teeth.

Is there a trick?

No trick. Just like with the old tractor mags. This isn't for your specific mag but the process should be the same: Section 9-2.8, step 3. Just mind the spring direction.

Thanks, I got it. The actual "trick" was 9-2.8 step 5 (Figure 9-15) using a screwdriver to hold one and one half turns of the spring up so you can get the cam hub engaged. It's all coming back to me now
