You guys- I've got a jet

The citation Pilot seemed a little authoritarian in a communal situation. Everybody in the pattern seemed really accommodating and courteous. Hats off to the Bend home crowd there.

At least the guy didn’t say “blank you, I’m coming in hot eat my wake turbulence“.

Sounded like the citation Pilot was perhaps a little fatigued after a long flight and was looking forward to getting on the ground.

That dude was hilarious! Basically dictating how others fly their pattern to avoid him. Nobody cares that you have a jet or that the pattern is busy or that you got a TCAS alert. I get those on a daily basis. Please don’t ever fly to either Oshkosh or Sun N Fun...or any fly in for that matter.
Wonder if he was an E-2 NFO in a past life. Dude was acting like he was an airborne controller.

Kind of hope he did report the situation to the FAA. Sounds like he could use a 709 ride...

I'm still trying to figure out what this guy was doing....from the way he was talking, it sounded like he was arriving overhead and then descending into the traffic pattern.

November 41ND you failed to enter the downwind on a 45 at a congested airport, I have a number for you to call. Advise when able to copy.....
I can't speak to the way the guy handled things, but can you quote a regulation that requires a 45-degree entry to the downwind at a congested airport?

I only wanted him to call a number. 1-800-328-1448
I’m not sure, as that number may be some joke porn number, but...
Your post did not come across, at least to me, as a joke.

His best clearly isn’t good enough.

he was operating beyond his abilities and requiring everyone else to compensate for that.

How funny if he ended each call with "... student pilot."

Only comment out of place was the FAA thing. Maybe a result of an over-stressed pilot at a single instance in time. Not gonna criticize that. As a SEL pilot I try to accommodate pilots flying more expensive planes. For example a twin holding short I will extend so they can depart.

Take away that FAA comment and it was just a jet pilot trying to get into Bend safely on a busy (or normal) day.

If you truly think that was the only comment out of place, then you might want to brush up on radio skills. His entire radio discipline sucked.

I’ll bet he didn’t even have the common courtesy to call clear of the runway before crossing the hold short line. TAKE THAT, peasants!

My favorite line was “can someone tell me if there’s other aircraft on the runway that I can’t see?”

All part of the general attitude that everyone else was in the way and didn’t belong there.

Way, waaaay, too tempting to key the mic and reply, “Yes. Go around!”

I would have been more sarcastic, and said “if you’re not sure the runway is clear you should go around.”

He sounded to me like he was in over his head, flying into an airport for which he lacked the skills to cope.

I’m reminded of the guy who started giving instructions to a plane that declared an emergency.
I think this would be a good video to make a parody of.

That is the way I took it, and add in a little bit of I'm behind the aircraft right now....

Maybe this was a situation where is would have been helpful to say how many minutes out he was.

I don't know much about flying fast aircraft, but his attitude sure was over the top.

You can almost hear him squinting as he’s reading tail numbers off his ADS-B display.

If he "vectored" two planes into each other, I wonder if he would be liable.

LMAO!!! I hurt from laughing. Love Tantalum’s way with words. Well done!
Haha thanks.. I genuinely can't blame the jet guy for that. I've never been a fan of the 45 minute engine run up and slow pattern. So many people just blindly follow what their CFI says "but MrSoSo said always leave it full rich under 5,000 and fly the pattern at 1,900 RPM"

Not only is mediocrity tolerated but encouraged.

.. and then they can't figure out why the engine sounds like it's literally drowning when they pull it to idle with the carb heat on at 5000 ft and full rich..

I wish everybody would just state how many minutes out they were..

Telling me somebody is 10 miles to the south doesn't mean anything, am I supposed to start doing math?? Whether you are a Piper Cub or Citation X just state the time

It's useful to you when a guy calls and you're already in the pattern, but if *you're* also ten miles to the south, you might be less interested in the amount of time it's going to take him to make it to the airport.

My home field is in a valley and somewhat channelized. So if someone reports ten miles to the south, there's just a ~2 mile wide band he can be in.

Mind you, the distance-estimating ability of many folks is a bit random. No better than their time estimates, probably.

To that point I do like when people give visual references. Granted only folks with local knowledge might know that

When I am flying the work airplane, and have to go somewhere without a tower, I will give a call 20 miles out, and also say how many minutes till we enter the pattern. Gives a little more data for those with good situational awareness. Probably will still get cut off on final by someone though....

And perspective, the Challenger will have a Vref of about 134 knots at max landing weight, so the slowest we'll be in the pattern is 144 knots.

Some people have never flown practice approaches out of “The Stack” at Casa Grande, and it shows.
That’s where I ran into someone similar to this. Telling other people how to fly. I called him on it, told him to worry about his own plane and stop telling others what to do and he responded that he’s an instructor, it’s his job.

It'd be better if Sky King had given accurate position reports. If he had, that Cessna might have realized there was A Jet right on top of him. That's why your buddy got an RA, not because of anyone in the pattern; because he didn't know where the **** he was.

Well, it tells someone who's also 10 miles to the South that someone else is in the vicinity and heading towards the same place and that it might be a really good idea to be extra aware. Saying how many minutes out doesn't help there.

A couple of weeks ago, I flew from San Jose to Tennessee. My first refueling stop was at Lake Havasu. Hearing someone else say they were over the river on a 45 for the runway really got my attention because I was also on the 45 to the runway and over the river. Prompted a call from me to clarify the situation. Turns out they were significantly below me and flying a slow moving weight shift device so no conflict. But them saying how many minutes out really wouldn't have helped.
