Got a quote for transition steam gauges in a 182S to a G3X touch with GI275 backup and replacement of KAP140 with GFC500 (including new panels).
Does ~$55k sound reasonable?

Sounds cheap

I’m sure the quote includes removing old AP and servos and probably the supporting brackets to allow a clean installation of the GFC 500. Your probably tearing into both radio stacks, left side new panel, etc
Then there is interior removal and reinstall.
You don’t mention it, I assume it’s the 10”.
I assume it also includes the engine monitor option.

These are some of the tasks and options people forget to think about.

Still sounds a bit high, sure they weren’t quoting a G500 TXi?

Correct, included:
10.6" G3X with EIS
GI275 backup
GFC500
New panels (left and right)
Vacuum removal
HSI (and support items) removal
KAP 140 removal

How many servos for GFC500?
Where’s the shop?

A GFc500 3 servo parts and installation runs about $17500. I pulled this from Lafayette avionics website.
The parts alone for G3X and 275 run about $17500.
So now we have $20000 unaccounted for.
So figure $100/hr labor that’s 200 hours of labor to do everything you listed above, except the GFC labor already accounted for. A little high, but not unreasonable if labor rates are higher than my ballpark estimate. If this is California, probably spot on, if in southeast, not so much.

I think it is a 2 servo install on the GFC (no YD).
Shop is in Texas (big city area), hence we have avionic rates of $100 to $125.
So the Labor of $20k (which is spot-on) would be 200 hours to 160hours.
I think the $17,500 from Lafayette does not removal of an existing AP

GFC 500 has 4 possible servos, don’t forget the optional electric trim, which I definitely would get.
Does that include sales tax if applicable, I would think so?
Yes, I included AP removal in the 200 hours estimate.

OK, yes, then 3 servos as the e-trim is included.
Tax however is not.

So it seems the quote is potentially a tad bit on the high side.
Will try to get 2 to 4 more quotes as a reference point

EIS included or not in the G3X Touch install?

I would be curious to know how well the GI 275 interacts with the rest of the system:
- Is the altimeter setting set on the GI 275 reflected on the G3X Touch?
- Can the GI 275 receive magnetometer data? I seem to recall that the GI 275 and G5 each needed their own GMU 11 for some reason.
- Can the GI 275 receive nav data from the CAN bus?
- Can the GI 275 operate in standby MFD mode and automatically (or manually) switch to ADI in case of G3X Touch outage? I'm guessing not (legally).
