Cessna mandatory engine flange nut replacement

service letters are not mandatory no matter what cesssa says. good idea? i will leave that up to the owner.

Can we go back to 1960 and get some good hardware?
No need. Its a generational thing where the new generation thinks they can produce something better and cheaper than the previous generation. Its the reason we see new crankshaft ADs, turbine blade ADs, etc on the same 60 year old designs. NASA has a few interesting articles on this and how it played into the shuttle disasters when compared to the Gemini/Apollo events. As the sayings go, ignore history at your own peril.

It's a Continental problem, not a Cessna problem. Textron just informs Cessna and Beech owners of the potential of nut failure if they have a Continental that might have that hardware on it. There are plenty of non-Textron airplanes that use Continentals, too, Including homebuilts.

Can we go back to 1960 and get some good hardware?
Yup. A new ADF, some new maps, a new watch. The ADF will have vacuum tubes in it to match the NavCom, if you can afford the VOR feature. Some new incandescent lights, maybe a new motorized rotating beacon. Some new brake pads for those awful Goodyear brakes. A new flashlight with carbon cells and incandescent bulb that will work for about 20 minutes. A new generator that needs 1200 engine RPM to keep those power-hungry lights and radios working while you taxi at night. At least the vacuum venturi doesn't need a vane wear check every so often, but it does collect ice.

Not everything was better in 1960.
