What are the consequences of running the engine with too much oil in it? I figure it would all just go out the breather.

My engine is supposed to max at 12 qts. What if (and this has not happened) it had 13 and ran?

Lots of cleaning. the belly will be a mess. The engine won't care.

Oil in these machines are not a "more is better" item.

It will throw it out.

The oiling systems in aircraft engines can be quite different from one another. How each works at max capacity or even overfilled can vary considerably.

same thing as if you drank too much booze

Do car engines have breather tubes like our airplane engines have?

Not since the late '50s early '60s (don't remember exactly)

Too high an oil level can cause problems if the crankshaft whips up the oil, but 12 vs. 13 doesn't seem likely to make that much difference.

my Cummins Ram (06) did...but all the modern gasoline engines have PCV systems that take the gases from crankcase pressure and route them back into the intakes.

This has actually contributed to some issues when they went to direct injection...there was no more fuel coming through to clean the oil mist/etc from the intake valves and crud started accumulating.

Mine gets 1 QT less than what it can hold. I don’t like to clean belly....

Before someone reports me.... it’s the airplane belly I am referring to. That’s my story
