I'm interested in visiting the AMC Museum located at Dover AFB. They have a civil air terminal at the base, and they allow civilian aircraft to land there with permission. Any idea if they will grant permission to land there for the purpose of visiting the museum?

I also saw in addition to the $45 landing fee, there is a $20 fee if you park more than 3 hours. That is getting a little expensive.

I don’t know. Guess you will have to make the request to find out. Given that there are several nearby civilian airports That could use your patronage, it would not be worth it to me.
 
I didn't know about that museum, thanks.

I just called them. You could fly in, but then you'd have to go off base and take an uber anyway; there's no direct access to the museum. Better off going to 33N.
 
If you fly over Dover's airspace on the same weekend a Nascar event is happening at Dover Speedway, you'll see lots of biz jets sitting on their ramp. Nascar guys ain't afraid of ramp fees.

NASCAR guys are also making millions of dollars a year. Was there another point?
 
I don't have any info on flying in, but I do have experience with the museum. Its well worth the visit. Go on an open cockpit day if/when they get back to offering those. We went every summer on the way back from the DE beach when we lived in NJ

Nope, that was the point. Those fees are in place at least in part to limit GA use of the airport only to those with generous budgets.

Very true. I’d suggest using 33N or GED instead.
 
Our flying club went to the Dover AFB Air Mobility Museum LAST 11 Nov 2019 (pre-pandemic) and after exhausting all avenues to TRY to land on base, decided it was simply not worth it.

We landed at 33N and rented a car...for 5 of us, it cost $50 and we all crammed in for the 10 minute ride, so $10 each for the day, which was not too shabby. We went with HERTZ.

WELL WORTH IT as the museum is no cost.

I just called and they will NOT be doing the spectacular show they did on 11 Nov 2019. We will just have to wait...

But, bottom line, it is just so much easier to fly into 33N and drive...

Clearly a moated starfort (Saw a PBS show years ago called Connections which is where I learned about starforts), but I had no idea we had those in the US. A quick google search for starforts in America turned up the following.

The fort in the picture is Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island, DE.
 
Thanks, yes...that was on the way down - did one orbit over it as it looked very cool.

I may schedule a trip and go out there one day!
