Looking at a nice '58 C-182. It has an old Loran on the lower right that needs to come out and I plan to install a Garmin 400W. Never flown an airplane with these under the panel locations for the radios... basically there's two on the pilot side, and one on the co-pilot side. Looks like the best location for the gps would be on the co pilot side - but is that the best for viewing the screen? They're not big screens... Will put a aera 660 on the yoke tied to the g-400w so that'll help...
Should the install be on the pilot side or the copilot side?
coaching is appreciated.

With the GNS-430/420/400 seriously consider including a FS210. I touch the 430W about 85% less than before installing the Flightstream 210. One button up/download of flight plans with ForeFlight or Garmin Pilot. Also see ADSB Traffic & weather if you have the right transponder.

The iPad is mounted on the Yoke for easy use. Since the GNS-400 has no radio, the amount of button pressing and display viewing when combined with an iPad/FS210 drops significantly.

This is how I’ve equipped my ‘56 182. Panel structure should be about the same as yours.
