Yesterday a little over 17 years after earning my private pilot cert and and 17 years 3 months and 6 days since I soloed in a Grumman A1C. My first pilot mentee soloed in the venerable C150. For 17 years I’ve tried to get people to take lessons, people that even expressed desire. There was always and excuse however. One young man started but never finished but this guy was different. I was friends with his late father and as a kid well to be frank he was a smacked ass, which he will readily admit, but found the cure for that in the Marines. The kid that you wanted to smack in the head turned into a young man that I really like and enjoy spending time with. So to say that I was super proud and excited is an understatement. I of course went to the airport to watch and I actually could not believe how excited I was when he broke ground solo!

So Keep spreading the faith. I’m happy that I could ignite the spark in at least one new aviator. Now I need to find the next. Congrats Max!

Well done, Adam! Now you need to get your CFi.

So was he a "smacked ass" as a result of an un-smacked ass? Not familiar with that term.

Mentored my entire professional career, but really? Learn something new every day....now I can sleep well. Thanks.

...but, anyway, good on ya Adam.
