looking at a 172 with a Lyc D2J. Found a Lycoming D2A. Can this engine be reconfigured as a D2J?
thanks
dan

nothing more frustrating than engine stuf. Probably nothing much diffent... but... "need an STC"
thanks for your coaching.

found an airplane w a D2J, run out, thought there might be another possible option to buy an other engine, overhaul the one that's in there later.
thanks for asking Charlie

I have done something like that many years ago. Same engine except for mags and provision for fuel pump and prop flange bolt bushings. Had to get into the TCDS and parts books to verify part numbers. Got a NTO (no technical objection) letter from Lycoming. Got permission from Transport Canada to change the designation and for the mod. Swapped the parts around, changed the data plates, sent in the mod report.

This was many moons ago, when fax machines with rolled paper were high tech. I might be missing something from memory, but I recall it was no big deal.
