Selling my Garmin 496 aviation GPS, with XM antenna. The unit is in overall good condition, and still has great battery life. I just turned it on and it has over 5 and a half hours of battery life left. The only possible issue is that the cable to the XM antenna is a little frayed around where it goes into the "hockey puck". I have it wrapped up in electrical tape, and it doesn't affect the operation at all. The database is long expired. It has some scratches on the screen, but I never had any issues viewing the screen

It comes with the Cigarette lighter power cable, the remote GPS antenna, the aforementioned XM receiver, the "bean bag" mount and a wall wart for plugging the cigarette lighter into for charging purposes.

I used this exclusively for XM weather, and it worked great for that purpose.

Asking $300, with free shipping anywhere in the lower 48. 20200512_164056.jpg

Crazy... Just a few years ago I was selling used 496's for $1200.
The ipad killed the value of them but they are great little units. I have a couple of 196's I use and love those GPS's.

I have a Aera 510 that works better with my cockpit setup that I am using instead of this 496, but if I didn't have the 510 I'd be keeping this unit for sure! In way, this 496 is better because of how long the battery lasts, about 5 hours. The 510 barely lasts for 2 hours, so I have to plug it in. When I used the 496 I just plopped it on the glareshield and didn't have to run any wires.

I love the 196 for battery life! 16 hours on 4 AA's. I keep one in the Cub and one in the Stearman. My favorite thing is the pointer function. Just follow the arrow to the airport.

I say keep it! I still have mine that I keep in the plane for whenever my fancy stuff quits.

How old are the databases?

Great units, last time I got mine database updated at OSH a few years ago several venders were charging $35 at the show.

I paid $350 literally two weeks ago on eBay for mine. You might put it there

Curious how much are the subscription/database updates are on this?

If the lack of a new database is holding anyone back, I will split the difference with you, so $325 with a brand new database update.

Is the 496 still available?
