Sitting in the cockpit, which magneto is left and which is right?

Inspect the ignition leads, they are labeled. some are labeled on the data plate.

It may seem like a "dumb" question but the fact that most magneto switches, mounted on the panel and as viewed from the cockpit are labeled OFF R L BOTH probably leads to a bit of confusion.

Now as for a pusher aircraft, hmmm I've never thought about that?

If facing the engine from the propeller, the left mag is on the right side and the right mag is on the left.

When you turn the switch to "right", you're grounding out the left mag and vice versa, that’s why the ignition is labeled as it is.
