Deferred for "x" condition, what about CACI?

How does this scenario play out.

You get your physical deferred because of any number of issues, but you also have a condition that is CACI such as: arthritis, asthma, migraine. The AME doing the exam is able to complete the CACI worksheet for asthma, makes the appropriate comment in block 60, but defers the application for a recent concussion.

Does the OKC doc then make a review of the CACI material, or just the deferred condition? Could a local AME approve the asthma condition only to have the FAA doctor overrule his CACI decision? How often would something like that happen?

It all goes to Joklahoma city. The issuing AME is going to be the one there. He will have to evaluate it all including the CACI data the original AME submitted as well as the stuff on the deferral.

CACI = Conditions AME Can Issue. It's not really much different that your regular vision exam or anything else. Certain medical conditions can be reviewed (following the FAA guidance, sometimes in the form of a worksheet) and approved without having to go through the SI process.

I might be wrong, but I believe CACI is moot when the medical will require an SI for some other, non-CACI condition. The entire medical application gets deferred, not just a portion of it. Oklahoma City reviews the whole thing in a deferral, though the CACI stuff should be easy for them.

If the AME issues stating CACI, OKC does not review it. Unless it’s obviously untenable.

The question, though, was about 2 or more conditions, one CACI and one requiring an SI. Does OKC look at just the SI condition, or the entire medical application?

usually not the CACI ... just the reason(s) for the deferral.
