Dogleg approaches and landings

Many times the tower gives me a straight-to-the-numbers approach which ends in a dogleg landing.

Most of my flying career was based out of S FL, where the need for dogleg finals was rare-to-nonexistent.

But at two local strips I use - 80TN and 57GA - they are de rigeur, due to tall trees on a straight-in final.

Here at my home base, with wildlife thrown in for good measure.

I don’t find them difficult in the least. After all, it’s just a shallow turn right at the end to get lined up.

Few things I hate more than yanking and banking at low altitude and low energy. Nazis maybe, and perhaps used car salesmen.

At KSNA, a dogleg final for planes approaching the short runway is actually a published procedure.

Nothing new to an AxES pilot...

Somebody had to do it -
That's not a dog-leg landing, THIS is a dog-leg landing (747). With apologies to Crocodile Dundee.

Aim for the Checkerboard and turn right before you hit it.

Sorry if you have all seen it before. First a still of the checkerboard.
