I need to set up a video system for my daughter's dance studio. (She's the director.) We're in a new space so the old systems (which was OLD) went with the old building and was demolished...

We have a camera in each studio with a monitor in the reception/waiting area so parent can watch without windows so children don't get distracted by parents watching. No recording of video required or even desired.

What I originally thought I'd do was, find a couple of wide FOV (160 plus degrees) power over ethernet (POE) cameras that feed a local only web server and then pull the video feeds up on the monitor/TV using a web browser. Seemed easy and secure (wired only internal network).

My conundrum is, while wide angle FOV cameras exist that would be dandy, they are not POE nor even ethernet feeds. And while POE digital feed cameras exist (not sure about local only web accessible) they are not wide angle. Typically 90 degrees is the widest I've found.

Anybody got suggestions?

John

You're right, not much out there that wide, but here's one that might work for you: https://www.amazon.com/GW-Security-Starvis-Microphone-Recording/dp/B077W19NL6
No idea of the quality or anything, just found it with a search.

The other option would be to use a non-POE camera combined with a POE splitter to provide the power, like so: https://www.amazon.com/ethernet-Splitter-Compliant-Surveillance-ipolex/dp/B078LYW6D7/ Of course you'd need to make sure the splitter supplied the right voltage at sufficient current and with the correct connector (or solder on the correct connector).

Ubiquity makes one I think.

ETA: May not be as wide as you are looking for.

Hey John...If you want to do it cheap and painless, and can forego wide angle for multiple cameras, take a look at the little Wyze cams. I sat up a surveillance system for the house with them. They're wireless and run off 5v (USB).

Out of the box, they're supposed to talk to the Wyze servers and provide alerts and monitoring, but they've got a RTSP firmware upgrade that will let you send to anything that talks RTSP....VLC media player for one. There's a way to set up multiple cameras. I turned their ports off in my router to make sure nothing leaves the house.

Jim

PS- Oops...forgot the best part. They're $25 a shot!

Here is a C mount 185deg FOV lens. Pricey but would work on any C mount Gige head. I'm guessing there are some cheaper ultra wide angles in this smaller mount but not sure where to dig them up at.

Ouch! Yeah, pretty pricey.

Why are there cameras like these:https://www.amazon.com/CCTV-Camera-...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2EGH8G3YEFWJ2R99FCXP but not available on POE?
And POE cameras like these:https://www.amazon.com/Reolink-Outd...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

But with only 80 degree FOV?

Honest answer?

It’s all about who’s sensor the Chinese think they can get away with copying while not ticking them off as an assembly plant customer. :)

Super cheap Chinese brands are always a generation behind.

That said, if the application doesn’t truly need wide angle and can use a PTZ instead, no patents or angry customers for them on those.

Some great PTZs for $30 bucks out now.

An angle I hadn’t considered but makes perfect sense. Sigh.
