I thought this might be a good place to chronicle the process my wife and I go through to re-do the interior of the Skywagon ourselves.

The plane has an interesting mix of interiors when purchased, from the doors forward it's original Cessna. From behind the doors to the extended baggage compartment it's Airtex as well as the carpet. In the extended baggage there's no interior, it's just bare airframe.

What we'll be going to is a Selkirk aviation fiberglass interior as well as an SCS aircraft vinyl floor.

SCS Vinyl floor installation replacing the ratty old airtex carpet:

This took a surprising amount of work, maybe about 12 hours. But here it is, the new extended baggage area:

Next up, I ordered some spare vinyl to re-do the floor of the extended baggage as well as all of the insulation for the selkirk interior. This means we get to rip out the crappy existing interior to install the insulation and it never has to go back on!

Very nice.

Any way of relocating that ELT to the ceiling or side, or even behind the bulkhead?

Nice!

Be interested in how you like the Selkirk stuff, it was a little thick and bulky for me and I ended up repacking the one piece I needed with plane plastics (I think that’s who it was).

Definitely go retro Shaggin Wagon. LOL

Yeah babbbby!

Per the ELT, you’d think you’d ideally want one that could easily be removed from the plane (with its one antenna) in the event you went down someone unfortunate

Not sure if you’re doing pulls, but always thought these were cool

I’ll be interested in your thoughts about the Selkirk installation after you’re done. Especially the right rear panel and around the windows. Skip the caffeine that day!

Any way to set up the site for user specific builds/images? That way one could post progress pics, over a number of years, without the peanut gallery. Kind of like a single build thread for each member.

That’s a blog or personal website, kinda would defeat the point of a public forum no?

I’ve done both with one of my planes. Forums get comments that are less than flattering but some have merit. Blogs are boring in comparison. They document what you want shown but it’s one sided. They have their place.

I’ve done my own 180 interior three times. Selkirk was my least favorite. Some guys love it, but the majority of those didn’t do the installations themselves. This project isn’t finished. I’m interested in how the early enthusiasm yields to the frustration that comes with the installation.

Yeah, but would keep jackasses like me from asking a stupid question and derailing an OP’s entire thread right at the get-go. Sorry @Mtns2Skies
Lol no worries it wasn't yours I was worried about :)

I love those pull handles, but my wife is not a fan. She thinks they're too "survivalist"
