Mag and vacuum pump failure

So this morning after takeoff I experienced a vacuum pump and left mag failure. It's a O-470U in a C182. My A&P can't trouble shoot until late next week. Since they are both driven by the same accessory drive, I'm assuming the internal engine gear failed. Has anyone had this happen or can you provide some insight into the problem and resolution?

Not an O-470, but I had left mag, and vacuum pump fail about .8 flight hours apart.

But possible....the gears don’t engage well when the main drive gear is in backwards

Well yes, assemble enough gears improperly engine failure may even result.

I bet that vacuum pump was not a wet(oil lubricated) pump.

Yes, it is amazing it ran for as long as it did. It could have ended real bad. A mistake was made but the shop has worked to make it right.
