I'm aware of training for someone with physical disabilities but I don't know the specifics. Can anyone who has some knowledge or experience put me in the right direction. I'm asking for a friend who uses a wheelchair and would like to become a pilot. Thanks.

Can they get a medical?

The FAA considers perfectly healthy people who took a few ADD pills as little kids during the whole add craze as unairworthy, not sure how much hope that leaves for someone in a wheelchair.

Nothing stopping them from doing anything pre solo though

During my career as an active instructor I had five paraplegic students....one went on to get his commercial certificate and instrument rating. All used a hand control designed for use in Piper PA-28s. I know that paraplegics have flown Cessnas but have no details on how their hand controls work. Contact the Wheelchair Pilots Association.
