I’m looking into building my first kit plane. I have a Lycoming O290D2 and was wondering if anyone knows of a kit plane that can take a O290D2 and is relatively simple.

Do they still sell Rv-3 kits?

plenty of 3's have been built from plans only. the early drawings were drawn to allow for plans built. I believe its was around the time of the RV-6 and the advent of CAD that vans moved away from plans that could be be built from.

The RV-3 standard kits seem more like materials packages compared to the more advanced later models. Lead times are long as they don't sell many, and produce them only periodically it would seem.

Yes, but I’m looking to build from scratch to save cost so I guess I’m looking for plans not a kit necessarily

Don't underestimate the cost of all the parts that slowly add up to be an airplane, I speak from experience here:mad:

Define "relatively simple". Two that come to mind (because I've owned both, both with O-290s) are the Starduster One and the Hatz Biplane. Simple planes, but a lot of pieces.
