Really tough news. What’s even more surreal is I flew over this exact spot just about an hour after it happened and heard his buddies talking to ATC about the crash. Kind of hit home and made it really sad. His buddies were trying to help with the search and rescue from the air in an effort to gain some clarity. Not included in this story but I read elesewhere that it seems like the pilot tried to avoid homes and went for a field( there are a lot out that way on eastern Long Island) but I guess the landing must not have been good.

Clear sky and tail winds to those who died.

Has anyone ever had a similar experience where you are flying and either over the radio or by eyes are aware of an airplane crash while flying?

Wow. I was flying about an hour and half after that to Montauk. I had no idea.

Almost...just arrived mere seconds after a crash to go flying myself.
