I can't seem to find the right answer - so maybe a specific example would be better. I am little unclear about my log book entries and want to make sure they are correct.

I am a private pilot and I am receiving instructions from my CFii to get my instrument rating. I go fly for 2 hours. Since I am the sole manipulator of the controls, do I just log DUAL or do I log DUEL and PIC? Is there a time that you log DUAL and PIC at the same time?

I understand if I have a safety pilot, I just log PIC.

What is the correct way?

Unless you're pointing guns at your instructor at ten paces, there's no "duel" time.

Actually, there's no such thing as "dual" time anyhow. It's "Instruction received." There's nothing that prevents you from receiving instruction while also either being PIC or being able to log PIC time.
