I’m on the verge of purchasing a 1966 Cherokee 180 that has the bow tie yokes and was curious as to what was all involved with converting them to the rams horn style? I know the shafts are different sizes so if I were to find a set of control wheels with the larger shafts could one just change the bushings to the larger size in the panel and then bolt up directly to the cv joints or is there more to it than that? The reason for wanting the rams horn is to get rid of the AD and mount the electric trim and ptt switch in the yoke.

There’s some truth to that but they are out there.

I found a pair of yolks for $600 online. The powder coating and switches were in place and everything worked appropriately.

The current bow ties don’t have any cracks in the hubs so hopefully we can happen across the right deal at the right time. My next question is do the replacement control wheels have to be from a PA28 or could they be from any certified aircraft that would fit a 0.750 or 1.125 shaft?
