I’ve glanced through the Garmin Manuals online for the new Garmin 175/375 and haven’t found what I’m looking for. Will the Garmin GPS175 run a remote mounted GTX33ES? The timer key on the 175 is a little redundant with my MidContinent timer and I’m wondering if the key can be used as the xpondr control.

Don't think so. You need the 375 to get the transponder/ADSB.

it does not list the GNS480 on that sheet

The 480 is listed for some transponders, including the GTX33ES.

GDL-88, GTX-33x w/ES, GTX-330x, GTX-3000 (GTXmodels require appropriate S/W rev)

Garmin GTN 625/635/650, GTN 725/750, GIA 63W, GNC 420W/420AW, GNS 430W/430AW/480/530W/530AW, GPS 175, GPS 400W/500W (w/ or w/o TAWS) (all require appropriate S/W rev)

I would bet money on it that it will.

When you say "run" what are asking about -- the 175's ability to be a position source for the 33ES and to display ADS-B in traffic and FIS-B, or the ability to actually control the 33ES (e.g. inputting squawks, identing, changing modes, etc)? I believe the answer is yes to the former and no to the latter. The 375 does it all.

Huh, don't know how the hell I missed that! Thanks, I'm an idiot.

I mean the ability to control it. Since the 33ES is in the tail, it'd be great if the 175 could actually control the inputs to the transponder.

Oh! I thought you meant for the ADS-B out source. Disregard previous posts. I think you need an EFIS of some sort to control the remote XPNDRs.

I believe a Garmin rep posted on another forum the GPS175 will not run/operate a remote transponder, but would act as a position source for a transponder. The GTN-650/750 will remotely operate a some Garmin transponders and act as the position source.

That’s why the375 makes better sense if there is not yet an ADS-B transponder installed.
