DG adjustment knob stuck in

Hi All,

Today noticed that my directional gyros adjustment knob is not popping out, but stuck in the adjust position. As such it does not turn and makes my DG inop. I can pull it out buy hand but the spring pulls it back in of course. As such, any quick things to check before I call the mechanic?
 
Your DG is defective.. Find a reputable shop and get an exchange. Depending on your end game, look into glass. What autopilot is in your aircraft?
 
No autopilot, plane is a 66 172. Probably will go with the cheapest option here unless it's a minor extra cost for one of the glass relpacements.
 
Time for an overhaul, or tagged exchange.
 
Get one on Barnstromers for dirt ass cheap.....

By “glass” he was referring to a glass cockpit. IE BIG bucks. So not a minor upgrade.
 
Thanks all, so can I swap this thing with any old vacuum driven DG or do I need to match make and model? A couple on barnstormers right now I don't mind the price of.
