Captain Eric Melrose Winkle Brown, CBE, DSC, AFC, Hon FRAeS, RN is a British former Royal Navy officer and test pilot who flew 487 different types of aircraft, more than anyone else in history. He also holds the world record for most aircraft carrier landings performed and is the Fleet Air Arm's most decorated living pilot. He achieved several firsts in naval aviation, including the first landing on an aircraft carrier of a twin engined aircraft, an aircraft with a tricycle undercarriage and a jet propelled aircraft.

You can watch it in a browser too. Just log into Amazon first then search for it. There should be a “stream with Prime” button.

Neither of us had ever heard of Eric Brown. Great find!

No kidding. The Brits could have beat the US through the sound barrier but killed the project because it had a straight wing - like the Bell X-1 and decided it wouldn't work.
That had to suck.
