Recreational Pilot / Private Pilot Written Question

Here is the scenario. Student Pilot In Private pilot training, in a situation where he would like to take a recreational pilot checkride (No need to ask why, let’s just focus on the question). Private Pilot Written has already be taken and passed, the question is, can the recreational checkride be taken with the private pilot written. Also, once the recreational license is achieved, if the Private is sought within the written valid date, can it still be used to upgrade to the private pilot?

No, the private pilot written can not be used for a recreational pilot checkride. For recreational pilot the requirement is:

61.96(4) Pass the required knowledge test on the aeronautical knowledge areas listed in §61.97(b) of this part.

The first knowledge area listed on 61.97(b) is:
(1) Applicable Federal Aviation Regulations of this chapter that relate to recreational pilot privileges, limitations, and flight operations;

The private pilot written does not test you on the regulations for recreational pilot.
