What do you do if you're about to have your hip replaced? Well, if you're me, you go take photos of your friend Cooper flying his Yak-52. I took these shots on Wednesday afternoon, then went in for surgery Thursday morning!

On the surgery note, all went well. New hip installed at 8AM, home by 8PM, and working on physical therapy today! I'll be back up taking photos in a couple of weeks.

I think I like #8 the best, but it's probably because it makes the Yak look like a WWII fighter and hides all of the gangly-bits on the underbelly, lol.

I wonder if anyone who has owned one of those ever named it "The Coaster(s)"

Awesome photos as always!

Awesome pictures! As usual

By the way, I had no idea that this aircraft doesn't really fully retract its landing gear..

Less damage if you gear up
I always figured this plane doesn't get much speed from retracting the gear. I figured it was a combo of training pilots to retract the gear and less damage in a gear up. Pretty cool airplane.

Glad your hip replacement went well Lowflynjack ;-)
Awesome Yak-52 Air 2 Air shots !
Love the Yakovlevs. We fly Yakovlevs Yak-52 and Yak-50, fantastic FUN flying machines.
What aircraft were you in to take the photos ?
Cheers, Etienne Verhellen.

Thanks! This time I used my friend's Maule. It's an ugly beast of a plane... tricycle-gear Maule! He's selling it though and I'd love to own it. Short of getting an A36 or a Lance, this would be hard to beat as a photo plane.

Setting the bar higher each time, nice work Jack!
Thanks! Not sure I raised the bar on this one though. It was a cloudy day, but I had to do it unless I wanted to wait 2 or 3 weeks. It was good practice and when we get the right light, we're going to do it again!
