Yeah, some of the initial TV interviews were pretty hillarious. "Here's something you don't see every day in Clark County" local law officer says. They also identified it as an Air Force plane.

I'm pretty sure he bellied it in. Gear on the Navion is pretty stout and there's no sign of it being anything other than stored in the wheel wells. If he folded one main, the other would still be down.
 
No, he lowered gear and safely landed on hwy, but had to go off the road into the ditch to avoid a car. Sheared off the gear and crunched the left wing on a road sign. Trailered it about 1/2 a mile from house.
 
It's sad to see a tough old bird like a Navion sitting on its belly, embarrassed before the world by its situation.

It must have been really hard on his daughters, hearing the radio transmission that he was going down and driving to the accident site not knowing the outcome. It seems like it's been awhile since there was a happy ending to celebrate in the GA world, glad he made it down safely.
