This was a shoot I've been trying to complete for some time. We got up on Sunday morning to find VFR conditions and low winds. We got in the air about 15 minutes before sunrise and then I saw that we would see the sun rise, but then it would go behind clouds. I nervously watched as the sun disappeared, but eventually I saw it peeking out again. But... it was casting a huge shadow on the lake I had planned to circle. Change of plans... let's go on top. Turned out to be an awesome shoot and a lot of fun!

You can see the darkened lake in the background!

Is this the 175 you were flying for a while? Beautiful shots! As always.

How hard is it to communicate with the pilot in the plane being photographed?

Not hard at all. I try to keep it simple. I give commands in increments of 5 feet usually. "Come forward 5 feet." "Five more." Sometimes I just say, "Keep coming forward until I tell you to stop."

Most of the time, I have a push-to-talk velcro'd to my fingers, other times I tell the photo pilot what to say and he passes it on to the subject pilot. The EAA prefers this method; I usually prefer to do it myself.

Great job Jack. The third one is my favorite.
Gary
Thanks Gary! I may be hitting you up for another photo shoot soon. I need a 177RG for Cessna Owners, why not put the guy who helped me get this job on the cover?!

Yep. That’s what GaryV flies. He submitted a photo I took of him to Cessna Owners for their calendar and that got me a job.

Looks great! I like the solid clouds below.

These are your best pics so far (IMO). Fabulous light (as usual) and fantastic background.

Pretty airplane and nice pictures as usual.

That shot with the cloud layer below is awesome!

Do you take the close up stills as well?

Thanks. My photo pilot was getting a bit nervous. I kept pushing! Yes, I took all of the photos, including the close ups.
