Should I take a job flying a 747 or hold out for the 797?

Maybe wait for the 807?

Seems like the heavy metal commercial pilot equivalent of the ever present GA dilemma...should I buy a Bo, or wait for the next generation Cirrus SR with nicer wingtip lights.

I’m not well versed in the 797, but I thought it was still a few years out. Not familiar with your rules/contract, but can’t you take the 747 now and transition down the road?

747 is going away. I know someone who is a FO on one and is doing a desk job right now since it is not being flown as much as it used to. He told me last month that he was not even current right now because the 747 is being phased out.

If your friend wants to fly long haul freight, the 747 is going to be in that role for a while.

#1 rule of pro pilots:

NEVER turn down a free type rating!!
I thought #1 was "NEVER turn down free food."
Drinks is #2, a type rating is, like, 7 or 8 behind "cab fare" and "cash" and a couple others.
