Mexico destination advice from Laredo

Looking at 2-3 nights in Mexico in January, out of Laredo. Any nice quality beach resorts an easy flight from there (~3 hours each way in a 182 maybe?) Alternatively, any other nice destinations for a relaxed couple of days?

Starting that far east with that time limit means you are gonna be looking at the gulf coast, but not the popular areas in Yucatan since they would be more like 5-6 hours. Along the gulf coast between Brownsville and Tampico (a bit under three hours for you), there just isn't a whole lot going on. I've flown that route probably a dozen times and never noticed anything I couldn't live without.

South Padre Island, in the other side of the border

Not beach but Parras, one of the newest MX wine country could work. Casa Madero has their own runway. Here's Skyvector reference 253123N1021216W. You could spend one night there and maybe try MMAN and do some mountain flying in those cannons.

I'd say other non-beach option could be MMLO and San Miguel de Allende
