My amp gauge is pulsing quite rapidly on my Citabria and I'm getting sort of a chirping feedback thru the radio. I can turn all electrical items off like turn coordinator and lights and it's less but still there. If I turn radios off and leave strobe on I can still hear a faint chirping thru my headset when the strobe flashes. An avionics guy I ran into said he thought it could be the diodes in the alternator. Does this sound like the first thing to check? Thanks.

That and the voltage regulator would be the first places to test.

Already swapped voltage regulator with new one and that didn't change anything.

Try cleaning all of the wire connections going to and from the regulator. I had a similar problem on my boat and that fixed it. I believe mine was where the end of the ground wire was attached.

My best guess is a bad connection in the field circuit. Start at the battery and check the voltage drop across all components including the master relay, master switch, circuit breaker, etc.

If you hear a whine in your headset that varies with RPM then it’s likely a diode in the alternator.
