Working toward some possible commercial gigs. Some of the listings I have viewed mention multi engine time in the qualifications.

Everyone is so hard up for pilots right now, you could probably get a commercial gig without a multi rating at all and have them pay for it.

Many folks have done the multi training in a PA-44 Seminole.

But you, me, full tanks and a ham sandwich and it will be over gross.
I've never had much of a problem with over gross weight. I routinely take full tanks, a student, and a passenger with little to no problem. I have had to lighten up fuel a few times with all the seats full, but its often down to 80/90 gallons, which is plenty of fuel for a 3.5 hour cross country if you do accurate fuel calculations.

That was pretty much my experience.
