C 182 gravel bar "Live"

Man, what does your prop and horizontal stabilizer look like after all of these gravel bar landings?

Prop is fine, horizontal stab is beat up.

In all the years I flew gravel strips and off airport, I may have damaged one prop enough that it needed to be replaced, and that was on a Piper Chieftain. I say may because 2 people flew the plane that day and the damage was not discovered until we put the plane away. The other guy put 6 hours on the plane and I put 2 hours on it. It isn't all that hard to protect the prop(s). Yoke in lap, anticipate the need to add power, do not stop if possible and stay off the brakes as much as possible. Of course loading/unloading passengers/freight/mail kind of makes stopping mandatory...

When operating on gravel you will just expect to get a nick in the prop(s) every now and then. Nothing I hated worse than going to the plane in the morning and finding a new prop on it.

I have seen some really dented up horizontal stabs.
