A little poll for airplane owners...

The happiest day of your life as an airplane owner was

  • the day you bought your first airplane.

    Votes: 20 64.5%
  • the day you bought your last airplane.

    Votes: 8 25.8%
  • the day you sold your airplane.

    Votes: 3 9.7%

  • Total voters

You close on the 150 yet?

What if the last airplane you bought is also the first?

My vote is rather forward looking.

I voted "the day you bought your plane" because the option of "every day of owning it" wasn't on there. I honestly couldn't imagine being a pilot and not owning an airplane. There are times when I wish I had some of the money back for other hobbies but I honestly wouldn't trade it for anything.

Couldn't agree more. I've only owned for 3 months now, but already the issues of renting are so foreign to me. The ownership world is so many multiple times better than renting.

Even those that complain about Mx. My plane has been down for probably a total of a month that I've owned it for various Mx things I've elected to do so it doesnt become an issue down the road. I immensely enjoy improving the plane nearly as much as I do flying it.

How about none of the above!

Day I got my first airplane I was screwed by an IA.
Next three years two more IA ripped me off.
Fourth IA is a gem, got the plane squared away.
No regrets lessons learned the hard way.

None of the above. Machines are just machines. Much better things to be happy about.

Last plane was a fun day, also probably my last plane as shy of a DHC2 it would be hard to top, first or 100th the flight home is always nice, but my first plane takes the cake, flying her home across the country as a 90hr PPL and having that moment of "holy chit...I own a frickin plane!!"

What was your first plane?

I don't know about "happiest days", but owning airplanes is what kept me a productive member of society for many years.

You ruin everything! :p

LOL. Nah that’s some dude on the Internet. Has a YouTube channel. :)

Probably comes from owning too many cars over the years. The airplane is a much happier car but still a car.

Needs oil and gas and work and stuff and goes up in the sky where I can’t pull over and call a tow truck, so that’s a minor disadvantage...

Don’t get me wrong, I love owning an airplane, but not being sick, not going to family funerals, sunny days, all sorts of stuff make me happy besides owning the airplane. It’s just one of many blessings. Once in a while it’s a curse, but I knew that going in.

Not nearly as much of a curse as having a stupid bluegrass lawn to maintain to make my house look like the suburban neighbors once was. Man I’m glad I got rid of that crap.

Water, feed, mow, rake, blah blah blah all for what? Looks and wasting water in a high desert climate.

If we ever move back to town, I’m planting river rocks.

Happiest day? The day my wife said yes.

Airplanes are tools. Build ‘em, break ‘em, fix ‘em, then buy another one. Or build another one.

How does one know when they bought their last airplane?

Perhaps you meant current airplane.

Yeah, ok, I get all that. But the question in the OP was specific about the happiest day of your life “as an airplane owner,” not happiest day of you life. So, regarding OWNING an airplane, if you have any happy days as the owner of a machine that lets you change its oil, which day was your happiest? ;)

You just have to buy your last airplane first. This is PoA. It should fit every mission and have an AoA indicator.

The day I bought it. Happiness soon erased at annual. Haven't sold all of it yet, just some of it. Some of it will probably be beer cans someday

Happiest day? First flight, after two years of building the thing with my own grubby mitts in the garage. Yee-whooo!

Looking forward to Saturday to do some maintenance, wash the RV-9A and generally putter around the airport. Life is good. :D

I saw her first at Oshkosh 2014. She was/is my first and only airplane that is all mine. There she was sitting next to a freshly restored 275 Stearman, a recently restored 450 Stearman, a freshly restored bird dog and a recently restored Waco. It was a magical time for me. My one and only trip to Oshkosh and I was on the inside looking out. Wow. All the other aircraft were just blurs for me. My eyes were on my airplane. Bam! Dream come true.

You STOLE it from the showline! :thumbsup:

So have we ever seen pics of this plane? I mean for those of us who avoid FB.

I would post a pic if I could figure out how.

Not to be outdone... I think I'll turn this into an airplane porn thread :D.

Post all you want. I just haven't had success posting pics yet. I did post a video of her running "My Propeller Sparkles".
The best way to show a picture is the "upload a file" button right next to the "post reply" button.
