We have 2 Oranda Goldfish in an indoor Aquarium... (Also a 460 gal KOI pond outside with several KOI...) Orandas are ornamental goldfish that grow a large gelatinous (fatty) mountain of flesh on their heads called a wen... Unfortunately sometimes the wen grows to a point where it covers the eyes, gills, and even their mouth to the point where they can starve to death or at least not be able to swim. To make a long story short ours had gotten to that point so we took him to a fish specialist at the Vet school in Raleigh yesterday... $217 later (for a $15 goldfish) he is back to his old self....

Side Note: EMAN was wondering if the stuff fries up tastily....Goblin before photo.jpg Goblin after photo.jpg

that poor lil fella probably has a nasty headache today

That’s true love! WTG!

When the vet gives me the bill for Autumn's visits I look at her (the dog) and ask her if she realizes she broke the bank again.

She hasn't answered... yet.

I stayed in the back yard (Ramada Raleigh) of that very vet school a couple months ago if it's the one up there by the fair grounds. The kid's wedding venue was the university club around the corner. Small world. Glad they fixed your fish!

Veterinary schools are great resources for animal owners. We, on separate occasions, took two goats and a llama to UGA Athens for illnesses/injuries that local vets seemed clueless about to good outcomes at comparatively reasonable costs.
Glad to hear your fish is recovering well. He have a name?

.....and, we've also made good use of UofF in Gainesville ER and Primary Care Clinics for our Labs. The expertise and range of resources is well worth the trip.

Took our Sheltie to UGA Vet School Hospital a few years ago. Dr. Samuel P. Franklin, small animal boss, was wonderful and very thorough. Can't say enough about the employees and staff folks there.

Yea... my GPS dropped us off at the University Club...we had to call the office to get directions from there... So I know the exact spot you're talking about...

By the way, I considered flying up to RDU, but by the time I drove to the airport, preflight, flew there (in my Skyhawk), tied down and hopped an Uber, it wouldn't have save any time at all... Funny how that works out...Course, if eman took us in his booney...may have made sense...

I have a strict 'no fish' policy in my club bylaws

You're a fish-a-phobe? who'd-a-thunk that? Is it the smell? nah, can't be that...

sorry, I should have said "no live fish". def not a fish-a-phobe, I actually worked in a busy fish market in college. but if we do some fishing at the coast, yeah, those fishies are coming back with us fo sho.

Ha ha, yep, if only we could just go direct from the Inn to the venue through the school.... we had to drive to I-40 (Wade Ave) then the beltline, stay in the entrance/exit lane, and get off on Hillsborough St. to get to the club on her wedding morning. If there is a way through the school I don't know it and we didn't try it.

And I sure hear you about flying into RDU. When we lived in Wake County we kept our plane at Johnston County, it was easier to drive 35 minutes there through the country than to deal with RTP traffic and "big airport" nonsense. Although my first lessons were at RDU back in the stone age. It wasn't so bad back then. We used to go out there at night and lie in the grass off the end of the runway. Doubt you could get away with that nowadays.

My small German Sheppard is a funny dog.

When she wants to go outside she will sit next to the back door looking towards us. I will ask her, do you want to go outside? Her ears will stand up. I'll ask her again, Do you want to go outside..?? At that point she will stand up.

So I ask her, Do you want to go to the vet and get put to sleep.?? At that point she gets excited and starts jumping up and down....

The new house will have a doggie door.
