So what is the "Purple" board?

Just be civil and keep the topics within reason (no obscene stuff).

What is your definition of obscene? :dunno::dunno:

The reason I am asking is that AOPA ruled the picture of this statue obscene

For those that do not want to click on it. It is a nude sculpture of Paris Hilton, dead with her little dog. It is an anatomically correct as a Barbie doll, IOW none of the naught bits for you Monty Pythion Fans

I'm a little dismayed about the now 77-post thread trashing a guy -- who's not there to defend himself -- over something that happened on the red board. Not exactly the kind of back porch I'm likely to hang out on much. "Be there or be talked about."

That's exactly the first thing I saw/read. I won't be returning anytime soon. I may try it again once the dust settles.

Definitely not obscene. Trust me, I know obscene.

All that you have to do is create a file called "robots.txt" containing the following text...

Code:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /

...and put it in the root directory of your web server. Once you do that, no search engines will spider your site.

No need to mess with vbulletin. Adding the simple text file above will stop all search engine activity.

Well... we want the site to appear on search engines if you google "aviation forum" or "100 hamburger" etc, but we don't want google to return my posts if the user googles N50909, as happens with my posts here.

Well... I can't say I'm a huge fan of that thread either, but our goal is really to have a place where people can talk about what's on their minds. We don't want to censor the content.

If it gets really nasty... we'll hose people down, but we're going to try very hard to give people an open forum to talk about whatver they want... no matter how much other people may not like the subject and/or content of the discussion.

For the record, I'm glad you signed up. You're a wealth of knowledge and your posts are missed.

Well... if the OG thread would have been kept up on the Rojo board, we probably wouldn't be talking about it... which speaks to why sites like POA and the Purple Board are around...

It's a vicious cycle... :goofy:

Oh heck, I always miss the good stuff. Mostly because I spend so little time on Red these days. It's really fun to see threads spiral out of control. Dismaying? Yes, but fun. Maybe Imo register on this purple board, if I can figure out where it is, just to read said thread.

I still don't get the jokes about bicycles.....:dunno::(:D

If the Blue Board guys will allow a little latitude, I'll try to keep this from bashing any one or any organization.

The bike jokes relate to a thread on the Red Board. It was started by a college student who sold his car to pay for flying lessons. His post was just expressing frustration that someone stole his bike leaving him no way to get to the airport and fly. He never once asked for help, but quite a few people ended up sending him money via PayPal to get a new bike. IMO (and the opinion of many others) it was a shining example of a community helping a fellow pilot.

Then the thread was locked with only the explanation of "Non Aviation."

It sort of became the battle cry for those opposed to the way AOPA was being moderated. Kind of like, "Remember the Alamo!"

We remember the bicycle thread, and strive to find that spirit of community again.

Ok I checked out the Purple Board. Seems like a basic V bulletin board. A place where Frank Holbert can call home. LOL He is a prolific poster. Looks to be a bit of a tounge in cheek aviation board for folks fed up with the red board. Not too much there because it seems to just be getting under way. It just needs time to develop thats all. Like us they are ain intersting experiment. I hope it works for them. I say if ya want to frequent it go do it if ya don't don't but lets all wish them luck and start taking about other stuff.

So Good luck purple. Nuff said on that subject.

Hell, Adam. I broke down and registered. There is more traffic on that board in one DAY than there is TOTAL on both of the last two I signed up for.

OK, so I like it. I just don't like the fact that you can't try it before you register.

I agree, it is entertaining to read as those types threads degenerate. It's a lot like watching the carnage of surfing, kayaking or any other extreme sport.

Obviously, most of my posts here are in the Spin Zone. But, I get a good dose of all the aviation-related threads I get to read and sometimes am able to contribute to.

The Purple Board seems to be more the opposite. I wish the best in its success but I don't see myself jumping in to any great degree over there.

Let's see If I got this right ?

AOPA wanted their board to be an aviation board, so they asked a few folks to take their sh-- and get.

And now we have a purple board because the few didn't like the rules here ?

I think I'll pass, and stay with 1 aviation board and the spin Zone.

Nobody at AOPA asked anyone to leave. It was other members that suggested we leave and start our own forums. So we did exactly that.

Most of the ones on the PB never migrated to the PoA for whatever reason. The rules here at PoA have nada to do with anything. Like I said, most of those on the PB never made it over here.

I think I'll pass, and stay with 1 aviation board and the spin Zone.

That's perfectly OK.

I see your consternation about personal privacy. However, you may consider changing your handle instead of the medium. Choose privacy.

"Someone using their actual name can't be serious?!" Google smoore and the first hit is some 'net geek who likes video games and writes about them in wikipedia. Google Sean Moore and you'll find some info about a musician or two and some other random people. None of which are me. Yes, Sean Moore is my real name and smoore is my preferred username.

Thankfully something has changed since it's inception because Google used to hit the Sean Moore who was a gay british porn star.. right at the top! I took a lot of heat for that one. The best response I could come up with? "If only I had his abs!"

I'd rather be some game-geek or struggling musician, thanks.

Interestingly enough, my father found some homebuilt related forum post recently while searching around for something or other. Maybe he was making sure I wasn't flying to GB to film gay porn, I dunno. He probably searched for "Sean Moore HOT FUN".

I'm frankly surprised you people post your tail numbers at all. It's like me signing up as my car's license plate number and the state of CO having a database of public record giving anyone pertinent data related to that unique identifier. When you tie an internet handle to something as specific as an aircraft registration, of COURSE you're going to get hits on you and exactly YOU.

Having blabbered all that, I have no opinion on the worth of any of the red, blue or purple boards.

Registered on the purple board just to check it out. Just because one registers there doesn't mean you have to go there if you don't like it. Been there a couple of times and there doesn't seem to be all the tension there like there is on both the "Red" and "Blue" boards(not bashing, just an observation). In the famous words of Rodney King, "Why can't we all just get along?". It seems more like sitting around the stove in the General Store than any of the other boards I've been to lately..All BS and NO worries.

Tension? What tension?

Just because there's a conspiracy to pour ice-cold Gatorade over Chuck and the rest of the MC?

i decided to sign up about 3 hrs ago. still waiting for that email...

FWIW i finally got the email at about 7:30 tonight.

It's just not an aviation forum unless you have Tony Condon! ;)

...or a podcast. I was just thinking this as I heard Tony on The Finer Points. (Don't get me wrong, Tony adds a lot to all these media! Just reminded me of when the networks put some characters of one show on another during sweeps week).

ha, true. ive managed to get around the aviation podcast circuit fairly well lately.

If you get Steve interested in gliders, I bet he'd have you on Airspeed... ;)

in the works :)

re Uncontrolled Airspace: The podcasts I've been on have been by people that i consider friends, Kent/Mike, Jason, Will. I dont really know those UA guys so i dont really plan on talking to them any time soon.

I dropped in earlier today for the first time in about a month. Reckon it will be another month or so before I return.

But isn't that what's happening here?

If you mean someone specific, I certainly hope not, and I hope that any such remarks will be reported. (Public/political figures aside.)

And if someone is talking negatively about another aviation site, and we haven't noticed, please also report it.
