Piper down in Johnson County, IL

Michael Terpstra and another family member said a passenger on the plane took photos and sent them via a social media site to friends and relatives.

"They had taken some photos earlier [in the flight], there were clouds and it was clear," he said.

Marcia Terpstra said at one point, the passenger sent a photo of the storm outside the plane.

"All the sudden they were sending pictures of a storm they were in," Marcia Terpstra said.

If true, what an absolute reckless, irresponsible thing to do.

There needs to be an aviation course called "so your friend is a pilot"
Chapter 1 should you fly with them?
+ hazardous attitudes

No kidding. I feel sorry for any pilot who wants to go flying with any of my kids. OK, sit down son we're going to do a full Q&A with a check ride before anyone in my family gets in your plane... :)

I saw that too. The pilot was commercial rated, but not Instrument. (not that any of those make it OK to fly through a storm)

Yep, huge weather system that day IIRC. Most of the weather east of the Mississippi was IFR and stormy in the South. Appears the pilot was also an Ag pilot. 4 adults in an Arrow.
