Why no chute pull?

Also, I dont know about you but i am not sitting on the ground while a large fuel tank, AKA the wing, burns. That's what those slip-n-slides are for.

But all the procedures were followed. sheeple.

That was my first thought hearing the story as well -- why did the pilot not order a port side evacuation? Were's just going to sit in this burning tube until the fire trucks get here to put us out?

The dilemma is knowing that an emergency evacuation (via the slides) will likely cause some injuries, perhaps even debilitating spinal ones. So the crew is faced with a hard choice, although I think most western airlines nowadays would opt for the chutes even at the hint of fire or smoke (on the ground).
