Why doesn't your spinner cover fit well? Mine doesn't fit well either, but I always just assumed that's because it was made for a 3 blade prop and I have a 2 blade prop so the holes in the cover for the prop blades don't line up. I would guess of all the areas on the engine that the spinner...

Definitely - I have a sweet custom Reiff blanket with spinner and prop covers. The engine is snug as a bug in that thing. But still takes 4 hours MINIMUM, I feel better with 6-8.

How long does a Tanis take to preheat an engine? I have one of those sump "pad" heaters on there now and it takes forever and a day to do anything worthwhile.

Correct, with 300hp injected IO-540. No turbo or anything, not sure if any Sixes even came that way but Lances and Saratogas did. Hence the concerns about altitude. I'd looooove to get up to Canada (and Alaska)...baby steps first. That's way better than $120! They could always move it in...

Agreed on all of that - I phrased the question wrong. Should have asked, what is the amount of time spent in the passes >12,500 feet? Many of these passes are calling for 13k and 14k altitudes to cross safely. But I don't know how long you have to stay there to clear the terrain you're trying...

I was told it was to prevent fuel from draining from the tips into the mains while sitting. It also seems like an extra safety measure and common sense to turn the fuel off while the airplane is parked... Teeeeeechnically, this airplane is so old it doesn't have a POH but rather an AFM. Alas...

Ah yes, I left that part out. Throttle is open 1/2" during priming and start.

Looking for some input here; I have a Cherokee Six and after each flight I set the fuel selector to the "Off" position before putting it back in the hangar. When attempting to start the plane after it has sat awhile (1+ months) I'm assuming the fuel from the selector forward to the engine (?)...
