Evidently the definition of fun changes somewhere north of here. My 1500 went to the shed at the first sign of any cold moisture in the air or on the road.
Cheap gas and anything resembling full service are nigh-on impossible for most privately-operated FBO's. Margins just aren't there, especially when the competition is city/county owned airports with a self-serve pump and a junker squad car. We can save $2.50/gal by flying 40 miles in any...
The problem is scheduling. When can The FBO expect the car back when it's needed by someone else? Everybody knows it will sit for a week and then 3 people will want it at the same time. pilots of singles should also know the car "has been promised" to the Falcon 2000 crew who pulls in after...
I don't think your opinion will change much. I bought a new WX-10 when they were the latest and greatest thing availble and have since owned several of the 1000's (that won't play on the avionics screens) and the 500's that will.
For me the value was to watch the far-out storm movement...
Airport design and facilities can be important insofar as the hassles are concerned. At KADS the chopper shop was at the far NE end of Uniform, which meant air-taxi by the ramps for the Cirrus shop, charter hangar, flight school, two MX shops and several large storage hangars. It wasn't a...
Some of the cross-border transactions can include tricky issues. We sent a C-340 to Canada a few years ago. It was equipped with some new super-duper state-of-the-art props that were STC'd and widely acclaimed in the US. Turns out they weren't approved in Canada so they sent them back and...
Whenever any of these who-shot-John threads gets going I'm reminded of the consistent comments of prominent FAA attorneys who lecture at the annual NBAA tax, financial and risk conference (held later this month in Vegas if anybody is interested).
"The FAA doesn't think money should change...
I found it was quicker to list each manufacturer with:
All post-war production singles/twins except . . .
But then figured nobody cared anyway so why bother.
The short answer is most of them.
The tactile feel of the knob and buttons on the 696 is preferred by many pilots including me. We had both units in the plane for the OSH trip, and even though the 796 has a few more features I found that I still prefer the other unit. YMMV.
