    I've seen these units in operation. They seem pretty solid. They're great for the Traffic and weather but... how about the internal AHRS and synthetic vision you get with the Stratus 2S? Worth a few more dollars?

    Correct. Pitot is not required. However, it's necessary to connect to the pitot system to properly check the altimeter system, cross-bleed, etc... There shouldn't be a problem with your shop providing you details about your airspeed accuracy, rate of climb accuracy, and your pitot system leak...

    No, but you still need to do your 24month test/inspection. $250.

    Are you looking to become IFR from VFR? Meaning: do you require equipment and installation? Or... You just need to do your 24month? If you're upgrading, then it can get costly... Otherwise, it's a pretty simple check, in and out the door in 2-3 hours.
