The fact that your old coil was melted tells me that it should have had a ballast resistor. Excess voltage for too long will fry it. The make internally ballasted coils. Does yours have internal ballast or not. You may need to research the part to determine that.
A lot of times when they fail some carbon gets sucked back into the line due to the residual vacumn in the line when the pump fails. Replace the suction line when installing the new pump as any debri in the line will shorten the life of the new pump.
When you loaded the software did you copy it from the desktop pc or use the original discs. It may be that you need to manually copy the file from the old pc and load it in the same directory on the laptop.
