Have you experienced an unintentional stall/spin before?

Just wondering how many of you have experienced an unintentional stall/spin before. What plane were you in and what did you learn from it? I have only done them intentionally in a C-152 and found them hard to get in to. I know it is much easier in a less stable airplane.

Purchase Cessna 150 or Cherokee 140?

I really appreciate all of the insight and knowledge shared on the post. This has made my decision much more informed. The 140 wins!

Purchase Cessna 150 or Cherokee 140?

Awesome info. Thank you to each of you for taking the time to provide detailed info on cruise speeds, fuel burn, and individual experience with maintenance. I am definitely headed towards the Cherokee 140 based on all of the info received here. One person stated a PA28 wouldnt fare as well...

Purchase Cessna 150 or Cherokee 140?

If the difference in apples to apples between the three is negligible (couple hundred $ a year), I think the Cherokee wins with me because of the higher cruise, increased useable weight, and the back seat/extra space. I won't be using mogas, as I'm not that efficiency minded that I'll start...

Purchase Cessna 150 or Cherokee 140?

Thank you once again for the insight. So are the majority saying the only difference in the operating expenses of an AA1, Cherokee 140, and Cessna 150 are the GPH (Assuming they are equal in their condition)?

Purchase Cessna 150 or Cherokee 140?

Thank you for the clarification on the glide ratio. The stall speed, approach speed, and best glide speed were what concerned me most. While obviously not fast, they are significantly higher than the other aircraft I'm considering. How are cost and parts availability of the AA1s in comparison...

Purchase Cessna 150 or Cherokee 140?

Thank you for the replies. Your insight as a previous owner of both planes helps tremendously. I am leaning heavily toward the Cherokee over the 150, for the reasons you stated (extra seating/baggage, etc). Especially if they can be operated at about the same expense (except fuel burn)...

Purchase Cessna 150 or Cherokee 140?

I am looking to purchase my first plane. I currently have CPL/SEL/MEL/IR. My mission is purely the enjoyment of flight, and to build hours in the process in the most economical way. Criteria: -No more than $25k for purchase. -VFR only preferred (simplicity and less to maintain) -Tricycle gear...

Complex a/c requirement for commercial..just venting

When you say demo what are you referring to? If I took my commercial SEL in two planes, a fixed gear for the maneuvers and a complex solely to demonstrate the use of a complex a/c, I'd be using the complex for about .3 of the checkride. What high level skill are you referring to that I would...

Complex a/c requirement for commercial..just venting

Apparently you read something that no one else did. I asked why I should have to demonstrate the ability to use a complex a/c again when I've already done that. If I had a commercial MEL instead of a private MEL I would be able to do the comm SEL in a fixed gear non complex a/c, which is what I...

We all remember the feeling like it was yesterday, pre and post checkride. You'll do great. Congrats in advance!

Complex a/c requirement for commercial..just venting

How is the PTS standard any different in the demonstration of using a complex aircraft? If I used two a/c for my SEL commercial I would only be demonstrating the use of the complex a/c to show competency in using the gear, knowledge of emergency extension, and use of the prop. I've already done...

Complex a/c requirement for commercial..just venting

I have private SEL/MEL/Instrument but see that I still must demonstrate the use of a complex a/c for the SEL commercial checkride. I noticed that if I already had the commercial MEL I would not be required to demonstrate proficiency in a complex a/c. What gives? Do commercial MEL pilots make the...

Long forgotten regulations of the past

Just wondering if some of the seasoned pilots (aka old dudes) on here can remember any of the old regs they used to have to abide by that were changed many moons ago. I'm only 41 so my flying stories only go back to the mid/late nineties when complex didn't require the a/c to have retract...

    Solo requirements for commercial

Did Ron just call me an old-timer? Never thought Id reach the point when I'd be proud to be called such. I'm only 41 but I'll take the compliment.
