    Bahamas Fly-Out Roll Call

If this is not an appropriate post, moderator’s please delete… My wife and I flew our RV-10 to the Bahamas in June. We had a blast. The planning was fun, although challenging (to be sure we got everything just right). The good news for us was the Covid testing and health visa requirements were...

Best way to take pictures of old photos

I use an app called My Scans. I’m sure there are others. As mentioned above, lighting is important. I made a simple plywood stand that I sit my iPhone on at the correct height above the document (or photo) and take the pic. Works great IMO. You can edit, save or email as a PDF…

What Did You Enjoy During Your Build

…There’s a reason why the mantra is if you want to build, build, if want fly, buy. The mantra isn’t exactly accurate in my case. My first build was specifically because I wanted to fly a fun plane, and not have to spend money renting. 172’s just weren’t doing it for me. So I built an RV-4 for...

    Icon A5 today?

I met a demo pilot for Icon a month or so ago at the Lago Vista airport northwest of Austin. Nice guy. He mentioned the Highland Lakes (which lake LBJ is a part of) in that area is a hotbed for Icon A5’s. He said there are 4 or 5 based around there…guess that’s down to 3 or 4 now…

As the price of gas at the pump skyrockets

I paid $3.59 per gallon at 10 am this morning at a station near my airport. On my way home from my hangar at 5:30 this evening the same station is now at $3.99…

My new engine is harder to start

I second, third, fourth or whatever the count is to check all connections. I had the same problem a number of years ago, and it ended up being the ground connection at my firewall. The connection looked good but when I gave it a good tug, the entire ring terminal broke off around the attach bolt…

Vans RV 10 or 14, trying to sit in both

I built an RV-10 and have it a residential airpark southwest of Ft Worth. I travel a lot, but would be happy to show it to you if our schedules coincide…

    Foreflight question…

Thanks! Makes sense…for the most part… But I wonder why Foreflight doesn’t just take that into account flying a point to point departure and arrival (or the first leg of a multi waypoint flight), and keep both numbers the same on that initial leg to keep ME from being confused :-)

    Foreflight question…

Straight forward direct flight airport to airport. Why is there a difference in fuel consumption between the “HDG TOTALS” of 3.6 g, and the “LEG” total of 2.1 g ? Same distance, same time. Thanks

    Control Cable Rehab

I’m sure McFarlane has quality cables, and their sales staff certainly is knowledgable... But, I just priced throttle, mixture and prop control cables from both McFarlane and Aircraft Spruce. McFarlane was almost double the Aircraft Spruce price (custom length cables for an experimental) Is...

Now that you assembled that P-47 that arrived in that crate...

Thanks for the cool videos Mike! I haven’t seen those before. The introductions are great! My Dad flew the P-47 out of New Guinea. Shot down a Val and Kate; but he really liked low level strafing...I enjoy the same thing in my RV-4… Tom
