I disagree, there is more a move toward tolerance here. The FAA seems to understand the safety is improved with professional help. The "two weeks to taxi" program with Glasair aviation is sanctioned by the FAA. I think with the trend toward less patient builders the kit industry is going to move...
I just had my Glasair III inspected by the FAA. It was a 1987 kit that another builder started. (Yes you can save a lot of money this way) the vast majority of the build was left to my dad and I. We spent the last five years building it. Regarding the repair and certificate the inspector told me...
There are a few glasair III's that I know of in the State of Texas. PM me with your contact info and exact location and I'll see if I can put you into contact with someone.
Dave,
It will depend on the particular Glasair you look at. It is possible for you to fit but it depends on the builders choice of panel height, and location and the rudder pedal setup. There are also strategies you can employ to make them fit. With not too much work you can move the seat back...
Maybe Siri couldn't answer because it's irrelevant. There is nothing reasonable about our current tax code whether the word appears or not! Reminds me of the Star Trek episode where Kirk talks a computer into self destruction by pointing out it's illogical nature. (If I remember it right)
Stick for sure. However, I will say it's easier to fly an ILS with a yoke. But give me the stick all day long. As for the ease of transition, it's totally natural and easy as pie.
Sorry to see you selling Todd. Mine is almost ready, second engine run yesterday, now inspection a couple of details and off I go!

Nice! That's AWSOME Todd. After watching it again, the only thing I would add is smoke! I have a smoke take in mine and plan to put it to good use doing things just like that.
There are Glasairs that have turbocharged engines. In fact the Reno winner the last few years runs an IO580TT. He broke records last year racing at over 400mph!
Todd, I have the long tips built with fuel, just not painted yet but I get the fuel issue!
I've flown both short and long tips. Both have advantages but I built a third set for my Glasair III. Few of them out their and they are almost exactly in between the short and long tips. I'll have to let you know how they perform.
